Becoming a Roofer

Becoming a Roofer

So you want to be a roofer? Fantastic! You'll find that there is almost never a lack of work and that there is plenty of room for growth in the field.

When you're ready to move toward that roofing career, the first step is to complete a three-year apprenticeship. If you've completed Grade 12 studies, or have earned the equivalent thereof (GED), then you are ready to enter an apprenticeship. If you are to build a steady career out of your apprenticeship, you should be able to think critically and read maps, drawings, instructions, manuals, and specifications. You should also be in good physical condition as roofing is physical labor and you will be up and down ladders all the live-long day. The apprenticeship is 4,000 hours long and consists of on-the-job experience as well as classroom training. When your roofing apprenticeship is complete, you will find that many entry-level roofing jobs are available to you. In the following pages, Roofing Jobs and Roofing Contractor, we will discuss a few solid career choices in the roofing industry.
