Green Roofs

A greenroof (or "green roof") is a roof on which vegetation is planted. The soil used for a greenroof must be engineered specifically for greenroof use. It must be lightweight to comply with weight restrictions and also must be relatively weed-free to prevent the need for constant maintenance. With properly engineered soil, a greenroof will be relatively low-maintenance. Greenroof plants absorb sunlight that might otherwise make a building uncomfortably hot; also, they, like all plants, release oxygen into the air, purifying it. That's always noble.
